The restaurant landscape of South Jersey has a lot going for it. Late-night dining is not one of them.
Oh, sure, you’ve got your diners, hardboiled old stalwarts serving ‘round the clock, and your standard wings-and-fries bar fare at pubs around town. But to sit down after 9 p.m., on a weeknight and be served a full-fledged, soup-to-nuts meal . . . That’s rare.
I know this. Which is why I was worried when I was running late for my 9 o’clock reservation at newish BYOB, Arugula, in Washington Township one recent Wednesday night. My phone dead, I couldn’t place a call to explain my delay and plead they not close up the kitchen, something that has happened to me on numerous occasions.
